Abstract

연구목적: 본 연구는 국내 TV 다큐멘터리에서 간호사 이미지가 시간의 흐름에 따라 어떻게 변화되어 왔는가를 파악하고자 수행되었다.
연구방법: 1997년부터 2022년까지 방영된 총 41편의 다큐멘터리가 연구 대상으로 선정되었다. Elo와 Kyngas (2008)가 제시한 질적 내용분석 방법을 적용하여 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화하는 국내 간호사 이미지를 분석하였다.
연구결과: 본 연구 결과 ‘의사의 보조인 및 돌봄의 이미지 강조', ‘다양하게 조명되는 간호사 역할 속 잔존하는 친절 이미지', ‘간호사의 긍정적 이미지 이면의 열악한 처우 보고'라는 주제가 도출되었다. 국내 TV 다큐멘터리에서 간호사 이미지가 수동적이고 보조적인 이미지에서 전문의료인의 이미지로 점차 변화되고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 2020년대 이후 다큐멘터리는 간호사의 열악한 근무환경이 개선되어야 함을 시사하였다.
결론: 다큐멘터리와 같은 신뢰도 높은 대중미디어를 활용하여 간호사의 다양한 역할을 대중에게 알리고 전문직으로서의 이미지를 고취시키기 위해 간호사 개인과 간호단체의 적극적인 노력이 요구된다.

Purpose: The study aim was to examine Korean TV documentaries featuring nurses and to understand how the image of nurses has changed over time.
Methods: Forty-one Korean documentaries featuring nurses were selected. The qualitative content analysis method of Elo and Kyngas (2008) was used to identify the images of nurses.
Results: Three themes emerged: “emphasis on the image of being a doctor’s assistant and caring person,” “image of kindness prevailing among the diverse roles of nurses,” and “reports on the poor labor conditions behind the positive images of nurses.” The image of nurses has gradually changed from performing a passive and auxiliary role to functioning as health care professionals. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, documentaries suggested that the poor labor conditions of nurses should be improved.
Conclusion: Active publicity of nurses and nursing communities is needed using documentaries as a resource to inform the public of the various roles of nurses and promote the image of nurses as professionals.
